This owl was the result of the Imaginary Creature class by Carla Sonheim last month. There are still some creatures and animals to be finished. But redoing this class has taught me a lot.
So back to experimenting with mixed media again and enjoying it!
Working on indexcard really frees me up. With the online collage class “Daring Adventures in Collage” we are trying out different forms of collage. Working on small cards helps me to keep fresh and experimenting without too much thinking.
After all, it is impossible to create a piece of Art on an indexcard, isn’t it?
This bird was made after watching Carla’s video. My bird turned out to be more detailed. Adding a bit of gesso and coloured pencil to make it work.
Do you want to play as well? Just watch this video here:
The advantage of having an iPad is that there are loads of apps available in which you can draw. Even vector based drawings that can be opened up in Illustrator to make final adjustments. At the moment I am working with the Adobe Ideas app. This is a free app available in the app store.
It is like drawing with the Blobbrush in Adobe Illustrator. You draw with one of the tools and use the eraser to shape the brush strokes. Luckily there are layers available, just like in Illustrator. For the moment I am experimenting with using a seperate layer for each colour.
Drawing with a stylus is not easy. I am using a small stylus, but it has a pretty large ‘point’. It is a simple, cheap stylus from a discount store, but it feels better than using my fingers for drawing.
I am looking forward to send this sketch to the pc (have to figure out iCloud and downloading yet) and make further edits in Illustrator.
Despite a soft start of the year, the weather in the Netherlands is getting colder each day. Nature has lost lots of colour, but if you look good, you can find some pops of colour anyway. I love the pinks in this image. Some are pale, some are warm but all of them are inspiring.
